Obituary of Louis R. Fare

Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Louis R. Fare, 94, of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on 13 May

2026, surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his brother John. He is

survived by his wife Patricia; children Michael (Rhee) of Guilford, Connecticut; Mary

(John) of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania; Thomas (Deborah) of Doylestown, Pennsylvania;

and LouAnn of Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Genevieve Fare, Emily

Fare (Fernando), Shawn Williams, Bryan Williams; Charlotte Fare (Rick) and Daniel

Fare; and great grandchildren Camila Fernandez and Enzo Fernandez.

The son of Mario Farè and Carlotta Giorgetti, Louis was born in Chicago, Illinois. He

spent his early life growing up in Greenwich Village, New York, where he attended

grade school and Power Memorial High School (class of ’49). He graduated from

Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology (class of ’53). He

served in the United States Army as a medical technician, and after his service, he

attended the University of Massachusetts—Amherst, where he received his Master of

Science degree in bacteriology and biochemistry. He then began work at Smith Kline &

French and its corporate iterations as a scientist in various capacities for almost 40

years, where he contributed to 12 patents and numerous publications in steroid

production by fermentation and plasmid research. Louis was a devoted member of St.

Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette Hill, where he was an extraordinary

minister of the Eucharist and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Faithful to his

northern Italian roots, he visited his parents’ towns of Cazzago Brabbia and Varese and

stayed in regular contact with his cousins and their children. Well into his ‘80s, he

would always be trimming bushes, pulling weeds, and removing the ubiquitous

burrowing bees from the lawn. He was a Philadelphia sports fan, with a special place in

his heart for the Phillies.

The family received relatives and friends at Mass of Christian burial at St. Philip Neri

Catholic Church, in Lafayette Hill, on May 18. A memorial contribution may be made to

Heartsong Inc., 277 Martine Avenue, Suite 230, White Plains, NY 10601 or https://www.heartsong.org/
