Obituary of Ed Davis
Richard Edward Davis, known as Ed to family and friends, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 AM at St. Helena’s Church in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.
Born in Lancaster on April 13, 1940, to Robert and Clare (nee Elbert) Davis, he had two sisters Roberta and Carolyn. He grew up in Germantown and attended St. Vincent DePaul grade school where he made lifelong friends, including the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Dunfee. Ed was a proud alumnus of LaSalle College High School and Villanova University.
Ed and Liz married in 1960 and lived in Philadelphia where they raised their three children. Ed spent his career in manufacturing, both as a skilled tool and dye worker and as a manager.
Ed was a man of integrity and worked hard every day of his life. He had many talents. He loved working with his hands and was the family’s go-to for anything that needed to be fixed. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Ed collected model trains (Lionel O gauge to be specific). When he and Liz moved to the suburbs to be closer to their children and grandchildren, he was thrilled to have a room dedicated to his collection. He loved playing cards (even though the family always said he “cheated” because he always managed to win), listening to big band music, driving (with both feet!), and taking care of his cars. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved laughing with his daughters and grandchildren. He was the best husband, father, and Grandpop, and he will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Liz, his daughters Linda Montgomery (Cliff) and LizAnn Batcheller (Christopher), his son Richard Edward Davis, Jr. (Michaele), as well as his grandchildren Rebecca, Allison, Alyssa, Jimmy, and Ryan.
