Obituary of Antoinette G. Piacentino

Antoinette G. Piacentino, 88, passed away with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Shannondell in Audubon, PA. She was born on September 8, 1935 in South Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Filomena and Dominick Gaspari.

Antoinette attended Philadelphia High School for Girls followed by Temple University where she received a BA in Education. She married her husband, Jack, and moved to Lafayette Hill, PA in the 1960s to start a family. She resided there until 2013, when she moved to Shannondell.

A lifelong educator, Antoinette taught for many years in both the Philadelphia School District at the Laura Wheeler Waring School and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Roxborough, PA. During her children’s elementary school years, she enjoyed a part time job in the China, Crystal and Silver department at Strawbridge & Clothier. She embarked on a new chapter later in life and spent 19 years at the William Jeanes Memorial Library in Lafayette Hill, PA. Starting as a librarian, she demonstrated a keen aptitude for using computers and ultimately modernized the library card catalog system as the Head Cataloguer. In her later years, she connected with her creative talents, writing poetry and children's stories for her family and close friends.

Antoinette was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. It was to those she loved that she gave her greatest gifts. She loved unconditionally, provided strength and comfort, expressed a keen sense of humor and wit, and offered whatever she had generously. Throughout her life, she cherished spending holidays and marking milestones with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling near and far, reaching destinations, including the Jersey Shore, Florida, New England, Hawaii and Italy.

Antoinette was an active member of Saint Philip Neri Church. She attended Mass daily, led prayer groups and traveled with the Philippians. She was deeply devoted to the Blessed Mother and maintained her faith throughout her life. 

She will be dearly missed.

Antoinette is survived by her daughter, Anne Marie Sheedy (James), son John Piacentino (Federico Gutierrez) and two granddaughters (Cara Anne and Mikayla Sheedy). She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack, and her sister, Marie Elaine Knight.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Visitation from 9:30 - 11:00 am followed by a Funeral Mass on Saturday July 27, 2024 at Saint Philip Neri Church, 437 Ridge Ave, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Breakthrough T1DTM formerly JDRF.
