Born March 10, 1929 in Philadelphia to Albert and Helen Roemhild, Betty attended Frankford High School and graduated from the Pierce Business School in 1947. She was a private secretary in center city Philadelphia from 1947-1954, during which time she met and married Jim in 1951 and then continued working until Jim returned from his service in the Army in Korea. Betty was a proud mother and homemaker with many valued friends gathered through the years from church affiliations, the P.E.O organization, bridge groups and neighbors. She held a series of church office and committee positions both at Trinity Lutheran Church in East Rochester, NY (serving as Council president several times) and at The First Presbyterian Church of Dutch Neck in New Jersey (serving on Session, Worship Committee and Corner Brighteners). Betty was also a lifelong member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a nonprofit organization that helps women pursue educational goals. She joined P.E.O. Chapter E in Philadelphia in 1961, then Chapter AL in Rochester, NY where she was particularly proud of her co-organization of a new chapter, Chapter CB, as well as serving as an International Convention Delegate and the New York State Convention Chair in 1973, and then joined Chapter AE in Princeton in 2007. In addition to treasured family vacations in Pemaquid, Maine, Betty also enjoyed extensive travel with her husband Jim, visiting many locations in the US and Canada as well as Australia, New Zealand, and many countries in Europe, South America and Asia. Beyond travel, Betty enjoyed all kinds of card games including bridge and pinochle, chess, reading, Sudoku, gardening, bird watching, and all-things nature, including the moon and stars. Betty will be most remembered for her caring, kindness, and love for her family and friends.
