Obituary of Edith L Moore

Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Edith Louise Moore, of The Masonic Village of Lafayette Hill, PA, formerly of Mayfair, died Sunday, January 12, 2025.  Edith was born on May 17, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of the late August Sauter and the late Edith (Potts) Sauter.

She was the beloved wife of the late James Robert Moore, who passed in 2016.

Edith is survived by her son:  Daniel Moore (Ritsuko), and three daughters: Janet Moore, Susan Fischer (Tony), Ruth Forbes (Kevin).  She has seven grandchildren: Matthew, Gemma, Benjamin, Alexander, Lindsay, Josie, and Madeline. She has one great grandson: William James.

Our beloved mother and grandmother (known as “Edie” by many, “Lou” or “Louise” by some, and as “MY mom” by each of her children), was loved by everyone who knew her.  She cared deeply about her family and committed herself to her children.  She was very proud of the fact that she successfully raised 4 children.  Edith was a strong and determined woman and she had a noticeable inner joy. She treated everyone with love and respect. Her determination and optimism allowed her to overcome Parkinson’s disease, which steadily progressed over the last 15 years.  If Parkinson’s got her down, she never let anyone know! She embraced new technology, learning to use an iPhone and never being far from her iPad.  At the Masonic Village, she sent holiday and birthday cards to employees and residents alike, which endeared her to all. Everyone knows Edie – the card lady!  She loved the beach and in October spent a beautiful fall day with her daughters in Ocean City, NJ sitting by the ocean and eating her favorite foods on the boardwalk.

Edith attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Philadelphia, PA where she was a majorette in the marching band. After graduation, she became a secretary for a local church. She met her husband, James, through a church youth event and they married on September 10, 1960. After marriage, they settled on Anchor Street in Lawncrest, and raised their family.  She was very involved in church activities at the local Methodist Church.  In 1970, she sent many postcard entries to a local radio station and won the family a trip to Disneyland in California!   Once her children got older, she returned to the workforce, where she was a manager at the local Burger King. In 1981, the family moved to Knorr Street in Mayfair (and Edith’s childhood home).  She later worked as an administrative assistant for a real estate firm and then for a Philadelphia non-profit (Health Promotion Council), which focused on community-based health. In 2013, Edith and Jim moved to the Masonic Village of Lafayette Hill.

Edith had many interests. She was a prolific baker, and no birthday or holiday was complete without her delicious homemade cakes. She made over a thousand cookies each Christmas for her family and friends. She was a talented seamstress and often sewed clothes for her daughters when they were little and even made a beautiful senior prom dress for Janet.  She loved the music of Elvis Presley and Kenny Rogers. Edith was a life-long, fanatical Phillies fan and her days during baseball season revolved around them. At Masonic Village, everyone knew how the Phillies’ last game went, because she would wear a red Phillies shirt only after they won. When she retired, she was honored to throw out the first pitch at a Phillies game. In a later season, she also was selected during a fan appreciation game to stand on the field with Jimmy Rollins during infield practice, which made her so happy.

Edith was a woman of great faith, and we can be comforted that she is at peace with the Lord right now.  Edith was the best wife, mother and grandmother and we all miss her dearly.
